Unravel the mysteries of our world through the investigative lenses of art, history, and science.

Potter Park Zoo: An Evening of Awesome, Interactive Experiences at a Living Museum

Come join our zoo staff and volunteers as we explore conservation and the natural world. Lots of hands-on activities will allow you to: View the microscopic world as a scientist; try your hand at a simulated veterinary lab; learn how to be an animal chef with our zookeepers; test your skill in the skull matching game; discover some amazing things about bats; find out how to be a conservation champion at Party for the Planet; have an up close encounter with our live ambassador animals; and so much more! Selected exhibits will be open for our guests to explore, too.

Earth Is Blue: A Closer Look at National Marine Sanctuaries in A Night at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

When you look at our planet from space, one thing is abundantly clear: Earth Is Blue. Our planet is an ocean planet, and whether you live near the coast or a thousand miles from it, the ocean is part of your life. From providing the food we eat to determining our weather, the ocean matters to each of us -- and the National Marine Sanctuary System protects this vital resource. Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary will showcase a collection of “Earth Is Blue” short videos that bring ocean and Great Lakes treasures to the big screen. These striking videos serve as a tangible reminder that no matter where you are, the ocean and Great Lakes are in your hands. These images will inspire you to help care for our ocean and to spread the word that Earth isn't green -- it's blue.

Technology and Science in Action at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

See the inventions of African American pioneers who have blazed the trails and participate in hands-on activities with exciting experiments. Station 1 is Build a Fizz Inflator. In this activity, youth will observe chemical changes that occur when baking soda (NaHCO3) and vinegar (CH3CO2H) are mixed together. In Station 2, Black magic/Chromatography, attendees will discover the secret colors hidden in a black marker using a coffee filter and water! Station 3 is A Color Symphony. In this activity, the audience and kids will learn about surface tension using milk, food coloring, and detergent! And in Station 4, Copper Caper, is where youth can observe old pennies turn bright and shiny!
