Statewide Astronomy Night at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum invites the community to a space party from 5 to 8 p.m. to celebrate and connect with the beauty and science that lies overhead. Kalamazoo Valley Museum staff and volunteers will share their passion for astronomy through hands-on activities, crafts, interactive demonstrations and discussions. Presenter-led talks and full-dome shows will be featured in the planetarium. The event is free and open to the public.

One Sky Project is an international collaboration focused on increasing understanding about cultural and Indigenous astronomy, its historical and modern applications, and how our One Sky connects us all. Each short film represents the perspective of a different culture or Indigenous society from around the globe. Each film stands alone as a short story or in combination as a longer narrative‒organized around themes of "Finding Patterns" and developing tools, or as we say, "To Seek Far."

The Detroit Observatory wants to bring you a little closer to the moon. Join us on April 12, Statewide Astronomy Night (SWAN), for a dive into the moon. SWAN will feature one-of-a-kind talks on Michigan's history with the space program, how to observe the moon, exhibits on imagery of the moon from the Detroit Observatory, and more!

Statewide Astronomy Night at Veen Observatory

Join the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium and the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association for a night of free stargazing at the James C. Veen Observatory. Along with the observatory telescopes, GRAAA members will set up their own telescopes so visitors can view the wonders of the night sky. Visitors can also tour the facility and enjoy a presentation about the history of the GRAAA and the Veen Observatory.
Space activities will be facilitated by Roger That! educators from Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Public Museum. Snacks will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. The activities will be available rain or shine; telescope viewing will only be possible if skies are clear.
The Veen Observatory is located at 3308 Kissing Rock Ave. in Lowell Township. Visit GRAAA.org for images and a map to the Observatory. Status updates on weather will be posted at GRAAA.org and at 616-897-7065 no later than 6:30 p.m. on the date of the event.

Explore the wonders of the night sky on beautiful Belle Isle with fun, family-friendly activities about science, nature, and astronomy. Stargaze using a telescope, try hands-on science activities, and learn about the importance of dark skies for wildlife. The Belle Isle Nature Center will host this free event for all ages in partnership with the Wayne State University Planetarium, Michigan Science Center, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Join this fun evening of activities under the stars.
