Changing the Face of Science: Adding Biographies of Women Scientists to Wikipedia
Type: Online Virtual Talk, Demo, Tour, or Performance
Only 18% of Wikipedia biographies are about women. While women scientists face a variety of barriers to inclusion on Wikipedia, the biggest barrier remains the simplest one: if no one takes the time to create the Wikipedia biography, it won’t exist. Join us as an MSU Ph.D. student shares her experience adding science to Wikipedia, encouraging others to get involved and help change the face of science.
To combat these gender gaps, Wiki Education runs courses training scientists how to add biographies of women in STEM to Wikipedia. We've worked with faculty and graduate students at MSU, and in this presentation, one alumna will share her experience amplifying science through Wikipedia, inspiring attendees to take action to ensure the public has access to accurate, equitable scientific information.
